This week we began our "All About Me" unit!
Morning Meeting
On Tuesday we read the book, "All About Me" by Debbie MacKinnon and Anthea Sieveking. The book was a fun way to talk about our body parts. The kiddos followed along by pointing to their own body parts. We then discussed skin color and hair texture and color, and talked about how we are the same, and how we are different! We also introduced calendar this week. We talked about the month, the days of the week, and we practiced counting!
Self-Portraits
Following our discussion about body parts, we began our September self-portraits. We begin our self-portraits by choosing the paint color that closely resembles our own skin color. We paint our body and the next day we add the details such as hair, eyes and clothes!
Library
Every Tuesday the kiddos have library with our JK friends and librarian Mrs. Fisher. Mrs. Fisher reads to the kiddos and then the kiddos get to check out a book! Please remember to bring the book back next Tuesday so your kiddo can check out another book.
Body Paint Process Art
On Monday we also started our Body Paint Process Art. We began with tracing each kiddos and then having the kiddos decide how they would like to paint their own bodies. After the dried overnight we then added a fun layer of tissue paper, beads, felt...whatever the kiddos wanted to use to decorate!
All About Me Bag
This week we sent home an empty paper bag and asked each kiddo to fill the bag with 4 things that they can use to tell the class about themselves. On Friday the kiddos each had a turn talking about the items in their bags and why they are special.

STEAM: Magnet Painting
Magnet painting is science and art wrapped in a colorful package! To begin, we dipped a metal piece in paint and dropped it into a tray. We then took a magnet wand and moved it around under the plastic tray. Each metal piece moved a little differently. Some were too heavy and some, like the staples, stopped moving when they got covered in paint. Our favorite were the small metal clips because they moved around the easiest. One of the best parts of this project is that kids can learn a little science while painting.
Journals
This week the question was, "Tell me about your family...." See some of the children's responses below and try to decide which one came from your kiddo!
"My family is fun. Whatever. Daddy stays at work then stays at mommy’s work. I was going to call J where."
"My family went to Chicago. My mommy likes my pretty dress. Daddy loves shirts. My little brother likes shirts too. They like to eat. They like to eat macaroni."
"My family is my dog. He give me a present. Mommy and daddy and sister and brother are in the family. My sister is Daphne. Mommy and daddy live in Chicago and they like to do work. They come back tomorrow. They go to Chicago for work. They are angry at me. They are not angry they are silly."

"Mommy and Daddy go to the campfire to make smores and hot dogs and hamburgers."
Griffin Buddies
This week we met our Senior "Griffin Buddies." It was so much fun to see the youngest children in the school connect with the oldest kids in the school. The Griffin Buddies will sit with each other during Wassail, Chinese New Year activity, and Celebration of Dedication and Excellence. We will also connect other times on our own.
Next week we will continue our "All About Me" Unit.
