"I Can Describe Popcorn!"
I love any activity that uses food....and so do the kiddos!! Seriously, what's better than an end of the morning snack in Pre-K? I created this chart to help us organize our thoughts. We first turned off the lights and shut off the music so we could focus on the sounds that we hear when the kernels were heating up in the microwave. I've never heard the kiddos so quiet before! Of course the first answer was, "POP!" But the kiddos surprised me when they said, "it sounds like someone is drumming" and then they heard the "beep, beep beep" after the microwave was done popping the popcorn. We then moved on to smell, touch, sight and finally taste! The kiddos couldn't wait to sample the popcorn! See the chart below to see all the kiddos responses.
Journals - Tell Me a Story
This week I asked the kiddos to tell me a story. I encouraged the kiddos to get creative and tell me a story about anything! After they began their stories I asked different questions using the 5 senses as a guide. What did "so and so" hear? What did "so and so" see? Read some of the stories below!
"So first here’s my bedroom. I can see the hallway, there is a door. The door goes to the ghost grounds. I hear “Boooooooooo!” from the ghost. I also hear a slam of the door. I can smell avocado because I think its avocados in my house. I can feel Mr. Bailey’s beautiful hair. Mr. Bailey is the ghost. A long time ago in my bedroom I can taste something spicy. It was a pepper!" -Zach
"Sometimes my mom and dad drives me to the rainbow. I see more clouds and trees. I also see my house. It's called Chicago. When I see the rainbow I can smell popcorn. Yum! I smell popcorn because it changes with all the rainbow colors. I wish I could taste all the popcorns. I touch some rainbow books and I think I go to where the princesses dress. I hear them say they are beautiful and they are in the castle." - Carolyn
Collage Art
The kiddos and I got crafty and started to create a collage using various items: pipe-cleaners, felt shapes, pom poms, pumpkin seeds, and buttons. As we were gluing down the items we talked about how the items felt and how they looked. Even Chase helped out!
Trampoline
Working on our counting skills and following rules the kiddos each got to jump 10 times and then switch turns. The kiddos were also asked to stand behind the blue line while they waited for a turn.
Zoo Phonics
The kiddos have been working so hard on their Zoo Phonics. We have worked our way up to letter "u." Ask your kiddo if they remember which zoo friend is letter u! We have also begun to identify first letter sounds and spelling out simple CVC (consonant, vowel, consonant) words. I have made extra sets of all of our zoo friends, so if you would like to have a set to practice at home please let me know!
There's Snowplace Like Pre-K!
This week the kiddos helped create the background for our hallway bulletin board. We used blue and white paint and glitter to create a wonderful sponge painted background!
Sense of Hearing - Dance Party!
What is a better excuse to have a dance party than to practice our sense of hearing! We listened to and danced to songs that encouraged following directions. We listed to a freeze dance song and other songs that had us acting out various animals.

Mystery Reader
This week our mystery reader was Zach's Grandma Patsy. She read the "Napping House."
Next week we will begin our Gingerbread Unit!
