This week we continued our dinosaur unit. We began the week with creating a crafty stegosaurus for our bulletin board. The kids painted and then decided where they wanted to glue on the various shapes. We then added a dinosaur nest made from brown paper and eggs made from balloons! The kiddos are very proud to see their work displayed in the hallway.
For journals this week the kiddos answered the question, "If you were a dinosaur for a day what would you do?" I loved the responses to this question! Some of the responses included: go to disneyland, buy ice cream, and go to the park. One student said she was going to be a pink dinosaur!
The kiddos made Salt Dough Fossils! To make the dough the children mixed together flour, salt and warm water. We all took turns measuring out the ingredients and mixing the dough. The kids loved this and shouted out that it smelled like oatmeal! After we made the dough each child received their own ball of dough to roll out, flatten, and imprint a dinosaur skeleton.
The kiddos made beautiful dinosaur silhouettes! Cutting out the pre-drawn silhouettes were hard work but the kids were so focused and determined. I was very impressed!
In Spanish the children are practicing animal names and starting to work on family names. This week the kiddos made a fish art project using foil and paint. Throughout the Spanish lesson the kids practiced their colors and using family names.
This week our Mystery Reader was Anika's sister, Inika! Inika read three books to our Pre-K friends. She read, "Don't Be Late" "One Night" and "The Seed." Inika was a great Mystery Reader and the kiddos really enjoyed the books!
