Plants...continued!

Journals
This week we have been discussing the different parts of a flower and what each part does. For journals this week the kiddos each drew a picture of a flower and labeled its parts. Some kiddos practiced sounding out the words and wrote the words themselves and some kiddos needed teacher guidance.

Marbled Paper with Shaving Cream
Art with the kids this week was DIY marbled paper! This craft offers up vivid colors, awesome designs, and the perfect excuse to play with shaving cream! The kiddos loved this marbling technique. It created ripples of bright, beautiful colors using shaving cream and watercolor paint. After the marbled paper dried we cut the paper into flower shapes and then glued layers of the shapes together, added a button and stem and created beautiful flowers!

Growing Beans in a Bag
Growing beans in a bag is an easy and engaging way for young children to learn some of their first lessons in plant biology! Each day the kiddos checked the progress of their seeds.

Planting 101: Lettuce, Sunflower, Snapdragon & Cucumber Seeds
On Friday we planted four different types of seeds! First, we looked closely at how the seeds were similar and different. The snapdragon seeds were the smallest and the sunflower seeds were the largest. We then discussed what plants need to grow (soil, air, water, sun) and how to plant the seeds. Finally, we each guessed which seed we thought would sprout first! It will be fun to see how the plants grow.

Next week we start our Caterpillar/Butterfly unit!
