Weather

This week we began our Weather Unit. We began the week by discussing different types of weather. During morning meeting we came up with a great list of "weather words" that included: tornado, rainbow, rain, cold, hot, blizzard, foggy, humid, thunderstorm, snow windy, lightning and "yucky." We also read many weather books including: Weather Words by Gail Gibbons, Clouds by Anne Rockwell, Fly Guy Presents: Weather by Tedd Arnold and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs by Judi Barrett.

Journals
After reading the book, "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" the kiddos drew pictures and shared stories about what food they would like to fall from the sky!

Types of Clouds
This week we discussed three types of clouds - cumulus, cirrus, and stratus. We discussed what each type looks like and what kind of weather to expect when you see that type of cloud.

Shaving Cream Rain Cloud
Our shaving cream rain cloud experiment was a lot of fun! Not only did we discuss clouds, rain and storms, but we enjoyed the process and experiencing the different textures and colors that we made!

Brain Pop Junior
This week we watched a video on temperature.

Caterpillar Cups
We moved our chrysalides to the butterfly habitat!  Everyday we get a chance to observe the butterfly habitat! When will our butterflies emerge?!

Mr. Bailey the Bee Keeper!

Ms. Massey brought in a bee keeper suit, a honeycomb and different tools that bee keepers use. Mr. Bailey put on the suit and entertained the kiddos pretending to be Mr. Baileys cousin Alex. He even disguised his voice and used a country accent!

Next week we will continue our Weather Unit!

Caterpillars & Butterflies...continued!

This week we continued our Caterpillar/Butterflies Unit!

Caterpillar Cups
On Friday, three of our caterpillars turned into chrysalides! Next week we will move the lid into the butterfly habitat and continue to watch as our caterpillars transform into butterflies!

Symmetry
This week we talked about symmetry and the kiddos worked on creating their own butterflies with symmetric wings using wooded shapes.

Butterfly Art
We extended our lesson on symmetry and the kiddos made butterflies using black glue and watercolors!

Journals
For journals this week the kiddos were encouraged to create their own ending to "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle. The story features a caterpillar who eats his way through a wide variety of yummy foods before turning into a chrysalis and then emerging as a butterfly!

Videos
This week we watched a couple of videos that helped the kiddos understand the process of how a caterpillar turns into a butterfly. We watched a time lapse video on YouTube and also a video on BrainPOP Jr.

Rainbow Adventures
This week Rainbow went home with Isla, Everly, Joe and Eden!  The kiddos are having a blast during their special evening with Rainbow and are excited to share their adventures with the class.

A-Z Countdown to Summer!
This week we began our A-Z countdown to summer! The A-Z countdown is a fun and engaging way to count down the days until summer vacation that features an easy and fun activity for each letter of the alphabet. This week we completed activities for A, B and C!
